Microchipping

A microchip is a form of identification that is reliable and cannot get lost or stolen. Having a microchip can significantly increase the chances that a lost pet will return home.

The microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and contains an identifying number that can be scanned by a veterinary clinic or animal shelter. The chip is inserted underneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.

At the time your pet receives a microchip, you will fill out a form with contact information. Our staff will register your pet’s unique identification number and your contact information in a national pet recovery database.

Implanting a microchip is a quick and safe procedure. Thomas Animal Hospital highly recommends that all pet owners ensure they have the best chance of being reunited with their pets if they are ever lost by getting them microchipped.
